Asia Night

We had a fantastic cultural experience Friday evening at the Asia Night put on by various Asian clubs at Jarom's school. We got to taste some yummy foods (the kids both tried Sushi for the first time) and watch many different performances in a showcase of dance and music.

Jack says his favorite was the "umbrella dance" because they twirled and opened and closed the umbrellas all through the dance.Olivia liked it all, but seemed most enchanted by the "rice hat dance"--especially since our good friend Julie was performing with this group. Hi Julie!Jarom and I agreed that our favorite was the Wadaiko (Japanese drumming) performance. It was loud, but so fun to listen to and watch! The performance lasted a long time (maybe 10 minutes?) and seemed like quite a workout. Here is a short video to give you a little taste . . .

The evening ended with a fashion show of traditional Asian clothing. Afterwards, the kids had a blast running around on the stage while we visited with our friends. Jack and Olivia even got to try on one of the bamboo hats--they were thrilled! It was a very fun evening with great friends and cultural entertainment that we won't forget soon! Here are a few more pictures from the evening: Jack and Olivia each modeling a hat, and Julie with our three kids.
