Anna's sob story

Anna had her 12 month well-baby check up a couple weeks back which turned out to be a somewhat traumatizing event. On a good note, we found out that she weighs a whopping 20 pounds. She barely made the cut to have her carseat turned to face forward! It's been great to have such a "tiny" baby around our house. Jack and Olivia were both 20 pounds at about 6 months. Anyway, to the traumatizing part . . . to get caught up on her immunizations she had to have SEVEN shots and then she had to have blood drawn for the 1-year lead test. Poor, poor Anna. To make things worse, when the doctor looked at Anna's ears she found that Anna had a double ear infection! Anna hadn't had a fever and I thought she had just been extra cranky because I was weaning her. Poor, poor Anna.

So, home we went with a sad wounded Anna and a prescription for some antibiotics. Things seemed to be getting better for Anna at least for a couple of days anyway. Then she got a terrible cold--runny nose and hacking cough--and THEN just two doses away from finishing her antibiotic this happened . . .

The picture on the left shows Anna's typical happy demeanor. The photo on the right shows the drama queen in Anna. She was mad because I wouldn't let her have the camera. . . but it makes for good effect.

a red red rash from head to toe. Poor, poor Anna. We took her back to the pediatrician who said it looked like an allergic reaction to the antibiotics. It hasn't seemed to bother her too much, but she looks plain awful. Now, almost a week later the rash is starting to clear up and the cold seems to be on its way out. Through the whole ordeal she's really been surprisingly pleasant. Aside from looking and sounding a little alarming, she's been her happy self (most of the time). It would have been a much harder two weeks for everyone if Anna weren't such an angel.

Poor baby! I'm glad she's on the mend. Aidan can sympathize with her. When he turned one, he got RSV, and ear infection, and an allergic reaction to amoxicillin! It must run in the family or something. :-)
